~Silence is the Language of the Dead~by E.L. There is no way to know how many people have left the church and, in some cases, God, because of legalism's "Never Enough" gospel. I can only imagine that for all who share their stories publicly, many others walk away QUIETLY - just as their abusers demand. When one is in an abusive system, she is told to keep dissent suppressed so as not to "sow discord." When one can no longer tolerate the abusive system, and leaves, she is told to "move on" and/or "get over it" because she is no longer giving to the system. As a non-member she has supposedly forfeited her right to speak. At every turn the system thrives in silent suppression.
-Never believe that your input is unwanted and unneeded.
Some people won't want to hear your questions. The muzzled are slaves to those who speak freely. The dead don't communicate. Silence is their language. You are alive. Speak. "So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don't get tied up again in slavery to the law."
